Download the flyer (requires Adobe Acrobat) The Parenting Workshop format is mainly lecture, but encourages attendee participation to utilize the cumulative experience of all attendees. Role play is a big part of the Parenting Workshop to help parents practice communication skills learned in class.
When it comes to parent-child relationship, the ages between 10 and 18 (oftentimes even later) are the hardest and most challenging. Opposition and defiance are two most common complaints by parents. Suddenly, it seems as if the once loving and obedient child disappeared and replaced by someone alien to the parent. This is made worse by parental concerns about peer pressure, drug and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy, gang affiliation and legal infractions. What's a parent to do?
The Parenting Workshop teaches skills that build upon the relational foundation between parent-child (now entering into his/her teen) to minimize parent-child conflict. The Parenting Workshop delves into issues of:• Setting priorities (parent's versus child's)
• Communication skills
• Differentiating between reward versus punishment and when to use them
• Forming flexible, yet firm family rules
• Identifying signals of troubles
• Peer pressure
• And more.
